The Gigaton Throwdown Study was a collaboration of academics and industry experts, organized by the Gigaton Throwdown Initiative, who evaluated the challenges and feasibility of scaling nine different technologies to avoid 1 gigatonne of carbon dioxide equivalent per year by 2020. They produced this plan of action:

The nine technologies discussed are biofuels, increased efficiency, concentrating solar power, construction material, geothermal power, nuclear power, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, photovoltaic solar power, and wind power.
