Robert Rapier is presently the Chief Technology Officer for Merica International, a renewable energy company. Prior to that he obtained an Master’s in Chemical Engineering from Texas A&M University for practical research on one process for producing cellulosic ethanol and worked as an engineer/supervisor for various oil refinery tasks. He also writes blog articles on energy issues pertaining to his interests.
In addition to a general interest in creating a realistic, fact-based commentary on energy issues, his writings on biofuels are particularly informative due to the practical knowledge of chemical and mechanical issues in plant design. (For example, he is one of the few people to consistently point out the decline typically found between process yields obtained in lovingly tended lab experiments and those obtained in large-scale, workaday plants.)
